William E. (Bill) Elliott of Franklin, TN passed away peacefully at home on Friday, November 9, 2012 at the age of 92 years. Formerly of Nashville and Ashland City, TN, Bill is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 71 years, Ruth Roberts Elliott; son, Ronnie (Pam) Elliott of Franklin, TN; daughter, Marilyn (Carlos) De La Fuente of El Paso, TX; sister, Ann Eulene Clifton of Deerfield, FL; grandchildren: Michelle ( David) Grizzle of Goodlettsville, TN; Tiffany (Richard) White of Silver Spring, MD; Nicole Chambers of Ashland City, TN, and Gregg (Jessie) Elliott of Franklin, TN. Bill is also survived by 8 great-grandchildren.
Born July 26, 1920 in Thomasville, TN (Pleasant View area) to John R. and Ethel Walker Elliott, he is preceded in death by his parents; two brothers; five sisters; son, Billy Wayne Elliott; and granddaughter, Angela Dawn Elliott.
Bill was instrumental in starting Tennessee Sheet Metal Corporation in Nashville, TN in 1951 beginning as the General Manager and retiring as President and part owner in 1984. Proudly serving in the U.S. Navy during WW II from 1943-46, Bill and Ruth enjoyed numerous reunion trips with his crew members from the USS Herndon throughout their retirement years.
Formerly a member of Trinity Free Will Baptist Church in Nashville, TN, Bill was a member of Bethlehem Free Will Baptist Church in Ashland City, TN where he served as a Trustee and the Chairman of the Building Committee that was responsible for the construction of the existing church and parsonage (dedicated in 1971) located on Hwy 12.
Serving as pallbearers were David Grizzle, Carlos De La Fuente, David Pigna, Earl Bradley, Henry Marvin Elliott, and Gunnar Gelotte.
Services were held at Cheatham County Funeral Home, 117 Elizabeth St, Ashland City, TN 37015 on Monday, November 12, 2012 followed by burial at Bethlehem Cemetery. The family requests that in lieu of flowers memorials be made to Bethlehem Free Will Baptist Church, 1709 Highway 12 North, Ashland City, TN 37015.
