Obituary

Sherry Kaye (Finney) Duke, 60, passed away on May 6, 2016 in Ocean Springs, MS. She is survived by Ted Morgan Duke, her devoted husband of 45 years. Born in Highland Park, MI on October 2, 1955, Sherry was the second daughter of Clifton D. Finney and Reba K. Johnson. She is also survived by her son Scott Thomas Duke and wife Jessica, granddaughters MacKenzie and Lexie and grandson Clay, of Glennville, GA; her daughter, Angela Kaye Dowdy and husband John, granddaughter Alivia and grandsons Brady and Corbin of Toney, AL.

Sherry is survived by her mother, Reba K. Johnson of Ocean Springs, MS, and her siblings, James B. Finney and his wife Marlyn; Sandra J. vanGoethem; Charlotte A. Bunkley and her husband Grady; Cliff D. Finney and his wife Jan; Sonia B. Charbonneau; and Christine A. Jackson and her husband Donn and their families. She is also survived by her step-mother Norma S. Finney. Predeceased by her father Clifton D. Finney of Murray, KY and grandparents Bennie and Lovie Finney of Farmington, KY and Fendrix and Mabel Smith of Ashland City, TN.

After successfully raising her children, Sherry entered the work force in various management positions in Murray and Mayfield, KY. She always looked for ways to go above and beyond to help friends and strangers alike, even to the point of helping a customer rebuild his carburetor in the parking lot. Sherry looked to serve in all aspects of her life. She was a dedicated blood donor to the American Red Cross. Always one of their first calls in times of shortage, Sherry donated over 13 gallons of blood.

Sherry loved the outdoors. She loved horseback riding, barrel racing, camping, boating, and fishing with her husband, children, and grandchildren. Never one to take no for an answer, Sherry once rode her horse to school when the bus refused to pick up a married student.

Sherry was known for her contagious sense of humor and her love of life. Her sly wit and intellect will be remembered by all who knew her. She was always ready with a quick remark that would have the room laughing in a second.
