Obituary

Sara Leota "Peg or Peggy" Jackson Morris, age 101, of Ashland City, passed away on April 20, 2017, at Alive Hospice in Nashville, TN. She was born on January 2, 1916, in Dickson County where she lived most of her early life. The daughter of Judge Herman and Lora Caldwell Jackson, she was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 48 years, Madison Joseph (M.J.) Morris and her sister, Mary Ruth Travis, and brothers, Hooper and Ray Jackson. Survivors include those dearest to her heart, her loving daughter, Sondra Morris who was very blessed to have her as her mother, sister-in-law Ruby Jo Jackson, nieces, Rhonda (Greg) Lindsey, Toni (Jim) Beard, Sharon (Doug) Downing, Ava (Bill) Kofahl, Jamie (Carlos) Wells, Brenda Jackson, and nephews, Bobby (Sue) Jackson and Duane (Lisa) Travis. She will be fondly remembered by family as Aunt Leota or Aunt Peg. A special thanks to her caregivers LaDonna Cooper, Vionne Williams, and Carol Bone.
When asked about her nickname Peg, she announced at the age of three that she wanted to be called Peg. A 1936 graduate of Charlotte High School, she lived in Nashville and worked for Victor Chemical Company (Stauffer Chemical) and B&W Cafeteria prior to her marriage to M.J. Morris November 4, 1942. She retired from Acme Boot Company in Ashland City. At an early age, she learned the art of quilting and received many rewards for her craft. She was blessed to have the friendship of many, but especially Evelyn Lee who was her high school friend and shared the same interests.
Visitation will be Friday, April 21 from 4pm to 8pm and on Saturday from 10am until the time of service of 1pm in the Chapel of Cheatham County Funeral Home in Ashland City. Brother Steve Blackman will officiate. Active pallbearers will be Bobby Jackson, Duane Travis, Kevin Travis, Christopher Travis, Greg Lindsey, Tim Jackson, Terry Jackson and Todd Jackson. Honorary pallbearers will be The Quilters of Ashland City Senior Citizens and Cameron Travis.
Interment will be in Jackson Chapel Cemetery in Charlotte, TN.
