James Raymond Gill passed away on January 3, 2017, at the age of 85. He leaves his wife of 61 years, Mable (Batson) Gill and his daughter, Joyce Ann (Scott Pittman) and his son Jimmy Gill. Raymond is preceded in death by his parents, Ettie Mae Osborne and James Ervin Gill and his youngest brother, Hollis Gill (surviving wife Rose England Gill). Still residing locally are his sisters, Helen Dozier of Ashland City, Tennessee; Dorothy Hunter of White Bluff, Tennessee and also his brother, David (Katrina) Gill of Lyles, Tennessee; grandchildren, Jason Balthrop, Adam Balthrop, Amanda (Gill) Rutherford, Dana (Gill) Gibbs; great-grandchildren: Evie Balthrop, Hogan Gibbs, Bailey Grace Gibbs, Boston Gibbs, Aniston Gibbs, Ford Rutherford, and Finley Rutherford. Raymond attended Ashland City Church of Christ and is a member of the Ashland City Lodge 604. He also served his country in the United States Marine Corps from 1953 to 1960. He retired from Oman Construction Company in 1991.
Funeral service will be Thursday, January 5, 2017, at 11am in the Chapel of Cheatham County Funeral Home with Minister Drake Jenkins officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Hill Cemetery in Ashland City, Tennessee. Visitation with the family will be Wednesday, January 4, 2017, from 5pm to 8pm and on Thursday from 9am until service hour of 11am.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Ashland City Church of Christ c/o Cheatham County Funeral Home. Serving as pallbearers will be Jason Balthrop, Adam Balthrop, Johnny Hunter, Billy Garrett, Jeff Burney, and Jay Ponder.
