Obituary

Mary Olean Atkins, age 89, passed away on September 17, 2023, at Centennial Medical Center in Nashville, Tennessee. Mary Olean (Johnson) Atkins was born in Stewart County, Tennessee, on August 27, 1934, to the late Claude Fay Johnson and Emma Kathryn (Travis) Johnson. She married James Wesley Atkins on June 13, 1954, and was baptized into Christ on July 11, 1948, in Sugar Creek by Brother Andrew Morris of Oakwood Church of Christ. Miss Olean, as she was fondly called by all who knew her, attended Draughon's Business College, and was a hairdresser and owner of Olean's Beauty Shop. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, and was well known to many children as Mrs. Claus. She will be greatly missed by all. She is preceded in death by her parents, Claude Fay Johnson and Emma Kathyrn (Travis) Johnson; husband, James Wesley Atkins; and sister, Thelma Mai Johnson. She is survived by her sons, Mark Steven (Terri) Atkins and Christopher Glenn (Shanda Springer) Atkins; daughter, Donna Kaye (Randy Edgin) Atkins; grandchildren, Nikki (Rob) Brunson, Taylor (Cindy) Atkins, and Kelly (Arielle) Street; and great-grandchildren, Belle and Sam Brunson, Miles and Sofia Atkins, Sandler, Stetson, and Solomon James Street. Funeral service will be Saturday, September 23, 2023, at 12noon in the Chapel of Cheatham County Funeral Home LLC with Johnny W. Harris, Jr., of Ivy Point Church of Christ and formerly of Clarksville Highway Church of Christ, and Barry Throneberry, of Main Street Church of Christ, officiating. Burial will follow in Joelton Hills Memory Gardens in Joelton, Tennessee. Visitation will be Friday, September 22, 2023, from 3pm to 7pm and on Saturday from 10am until service hour of 12noon. Serving as active pallbearers will be Keith Travis, Jackie Travis, Julian Johnson, O'Neal Johnson, Mark Jarrell, and Phillip Cherry.
