L.W. "Tex" Newland, age 85, passed away on Wednesday, April 18, 2018, at his home surrounded by his loving family. Tex was born in Cheatham County, Tennessee, on May 7, 1932, to the late Robert B. Newland and Ethel Lee Reeves Newland. He was a U.S. Army Veteran, serving during the Korean Conflict. He was a "jack-of-all trades," working as a mechanic, worked on cranes, saddle trees, but will be remembered most for his many wood working crafts for over 50 years, especially his toys he gave freely to children. He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Laura Newland; brothers: James, Joe, and Delmous Newland; sisters, Bertha Chandler, Mabel Binkley, Ellie Mae Spears, Uldean Blanton, Mary Dozier, and Maxine Scalf. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Elizabeth "Liz" Nelson Newland; son, Preston (Shelli) Newland; brothers, Bruce (Nancy), Herman (Sharon) and John Earl (Marlene) Newland; sister, Dell Linthacum; two grandchildren, Travis and Trent Newland; and two great-grandchildren, Kailey Elizabeth and Cheyenne Newland. Funeral service will be Saturday, April 21, 2018, at 2pm in the Chapel of Cheatham County Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Newland Cemetery in Ashland City, Tennessee. The family will receive visitors on Friday, April 20, 2018, from 2pm to 7pm and on Saturday, April 21st from 10am until service hour of 2pm. Serving as active pallbearers are Steve Romans, Trey Austin, Travis and Trent Newland, Miles Nelson, and Austin Fielder. Honorary pallbearers are Jimmy Hunt, Sam Goodman, Mark Austin, H.F.
