John Cobler, age 67, passed away on Sunday, August 30, 2026, at Centennial Medical Center in Nashville, Tennessee. John was born in Wise County, Virginia on May 9, 1959, the son of John W. Cobler and Margaret (McClurkan) Cobler. John was a member of Kento Boo Baptist Church in Florence, Kentucky, and graduated from Eastern Kentucky University, where he played football and earned a bachelor’s degree in physical education. He coached football at his alma mater, Boone County High School, and most recently retired as a truck driver. In retirement, he enjoyed tinkering, never missed Jeopardy! or The Big Bang Theory, and could quote nearly any movie after watching it once. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Margaret Cobler and granddaughter, Michaela Stehlin. He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Rita L. (Pigg) Cobler; children: Meagan Stehlin (Jason), Ian Cobler, Tosha Harris (Chad); LaTasha Howell (Michael), Bronson Herity (Chasity), Blake Herity (Amanda); and grandchildren, Izaak Stehlin, Levi Stehlin, Michael Stehlin, Madelynn Cobler,Tucker Harris, Everly Harris, Sydney Howell, Isabella Howell, Bostyn Howell, Addison Herity, Harper Herity, Kinsley Herity, Owen Herity; and his four-legged buddy, Hoog. Funeral service will be Friday, September 4, 2026, at 3pm in the Chapel of Cheatham County Funeral Home with Brother Bernie Deffinger officiating. Burial will follow in Bearwallow Community Cemetery in Ashland City, Tennessee. Visitation will be Thursday, September 3, 2026, from 3pm to 7pm and on Friday from 12noon until service hour of 3pm. Serving as active pallbearers are Jason Stehlin, Izaak Stehlin, Ian Cobler, Blake Herity, Michael Howell, Roy Pigg, and Chad Harris. Honorary pallbearers are Michael Stehlin and Levi Stehlin.
