SCOTT, JERRY E., age 66, passed away at his home on Wednesday, January 4, 2017. Jerry was born in Detroit, Michigan on March 12, 1950, to the late Jerry L. Scott and Nannie M. James Scott. He was the oldest of four siblings. He attended Cheatham County High School and graduated from Father Ryan High School in Nashville, TN. Jerry was a member of Ashland City First Baptist Church. After a lengthy career in various fields, he joined the Cheatham County Sheriff's Department in 1995 and retired after serving 17 years as a transport officer, field training officer, and shift officer. Of his many years of volunteer work, he is most known and loved for his role as Ashland City's Santa Claus. He volunteered in this capacity for over 20 years collecting and purchasing toys for children not chosen through the Angel Tree program. He was active in the Ashland City Masonic Lodge #604, the Scottish Rite, the York Rite, and the National Sojourners. Jerry was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 30 years, Jane Marie Sweeney Scott, his sister, Debra Christy; and his niece Jessica Johnson. He is survived by sister, Donna Johnson; brother-in-law , Anthony Morris; brother, Hugh Walton Scott (Angie); his children: Rebecca McDonald, Joy Kott Emery (Ralph), Jann Kott, John Joseph Kott (Easter), Joellyn Kott, and Jennifer Saunders; grandchildren: Braeden McDonald, Nicholas Patella, Michael Emery, Kit Emery, Robert Plummer, Shawn Matthews; nieces, Holly Johnson, Jessalyn Scott; nephew, Ryan Potts; fiance', Libbie Bice. He will be truly missed by his family and many friends. Funeral service will be Monday, January 9, 2017, at 1pm in the Chapel of Cheatham County Funeral Home with Dr. Sam Creed officiating. Burial will follow in Bethlehem Cemetery in Ashland City, Tennessee. The family will receive friends on Sunday, January 8, 2017, from 2pm to 7pm with a Masonic Service at 7pm and visitation will resume on Monday from 10am until service hour of 1pm. Serving as pallbearers will be Ryan Potts, Ken Lund, Walton Scott, Ron Brawley, Anthony Morris, and Randy Moran. Honorary pallbearers are the Masonic Lodge #604, and Corky Albright of WQSV in Ashland City.
