Obituary

Jerry Carney, age 87, of Ashland City, Tennessee, passed away on Sunday, June 21, 2026, at his home. He was born on August 7, 1938, in Ashland City, Tennessee, to the late Harvey Jackson Carney and Lillie Mai (Simpson) Carney. Jerry graduated Cheatham County High School Class of 1958. He went on to serve proudly in the National Guard for 8 years. He was employed for the Tennessee Department of Transportation for 31 years. He then served as the Cheatham County Road Superintendent for 24 years. Farming and raising cattle was his enjoyment. He also loved drag car racing. Jerry is preceded in death by his parents, Harvey and Lillie Mai Carney; daughters, Jerri Lynne Carney and Linda Kay Carney; brothers, Terry Carney and Eugene Carney; sisters, Juanita Prince, Virginia Waller, and Delois Palla; and father-in-law and mother-in-law, Cecil West and Myrtle (Harvey) West; and son-in-law, Stephen Wood. He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years Linda (West) Carney; son, Keith Carney; daughter, Lisa Wood; grandchildren, Samuel Wood and Alyssa Wood; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Carl West and Martha West; nieces, Carla Nicholson, Michelle Graham, and Patty Shinn; and nephew, Tracy Palla. Funeral service will be Wednesday, June 24, 2026, at 1pm in the Chapel of Cheatham County Funeral Home with Chad Owen officiating. Burial will follow at Carney Demonbreun Cemetery in Ashland City, Tennessee. Visitation will be the same day from 12noon until the service hour of 1pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
