Obituary

JERRY EUGENE CANNON, age 81, passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 9, 2017, at his home. Jerry was born on August 20, 1935, in Pleasant View, Tennessee, to the late James Martin Cannon and Nannie Farmer Cannon. He was a member of Ashland City Church of Christ, the United States Navy, during the Korean War Conflict and achieved the rank of 3rd Class Gunner's Mate. Following his service to his country, Jerry was a farmer and worked in the sheet metal industry for R.D. Herbert Roofing and Sheet Metal Company, Tennessee Sheet Metal and retired from Opryland in 1996. He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 39 years, Gail Mayberry Cannon; son, Kevin Bennett; brothers, Gilbert, William, Earl, Roy Cannon and two infant brothers; and sisters, Rosia, Myrtie, Ruby, Thelma, Sue, Waydene and one infant baby sister. He is survived by his wife of 21 years, Jean Cannon; sons, Merle (Janis) Cannon, Barrett (Cindy) Cannon and Greg (Sherrie) Cannon; daughters, Jerri Renee (Kimberley) Cannon and Yvonne (Jerry) Collier, Tammy (Clint) Hunt and Jayme Yates; and grandchildren, Eric (Heather) Collier, Regina (Josh) Hodge, Tracie (Jesse) Holt, Meredith (Andrew) Heiser, Clayton Cannon, Caylee Cannon, K.J. Bennett and Kelsey Bennett and great-grandchildren, Aven Collier, Ezra Collier, Everly Hodge, Barrett Hodge, and May arrival, Rooney Heiser. Funeral service will be Saturday, February 11, 2017, at 1pm in the Chapel of Cheatham County Funeral Home with Brother Cliett Goodpasture and Brother Drake Jenkins officiating. Burial will follow in Felts Cemetery in Ashland City, Tennessee, with military honors provided. The family will receive friends on Friday, February 10, 2017, from 4pm to 8pm and on Saturday, February 11th from 10am until service hour of 1pm. Serving as pallbearers will be Merle Cannon, Barrett Cannon, Greg Cannon, Chip Reed, Ryan Mahaney, and Donnie Mitchell. Honorary pallbearers are Paul Mahaney, Clint Hunt, Jerry Collier, Pete Krantz, Clay Cannon, Eric Collier and K.J. Bennett.
