SCOTT, Jane Marie, Age 89, surrounded by love, she passed away at her home in Ashland City on Sept. 5, 2012. She is survived by her devoted husband of over 30 years, Jerry Eldin Scott of Ashland City; children, Joy Kott Emery (Ralph) of Nashville, Jann Marie Kott of Smyrna, John Joseph Kott (Easter) of Commerce, Georgia, Joellyn Ann Kott of Nashville, Jennifer Dawn Kott of Nashville; grandsons, Michael Emery, Ralph "Kit" Emery, Robert Plummer, Shawn Matthews, Nathaniel Cathey (deceased), Nicholas Patella; great grand-daughters, Meghan Emery, Allie Emery, Kelsey Matthews, Madison Matthews; nieces, nephews, cousins, extended members of the Scott family, and many loving friends. She is predeceased by parents, Edward John and Elva Levenna (Puderbaugh) Sweeney of Cranford, New Jersey, sister Virginia Rose Hower of Pennsylvania, and brother Ralph Edward Sweeney, M.D., of New Jersey.

She was born May 10, 1923, in Lawrence, Kansas, and spent her childhood in Cranford, New Jersey. She attended the University of Kansas where she was a member of the Alpha Omega sorority. After college she moved from Lawrence, Kansas, to Chicago, Illinois, and later to Nashville, Tennessee, where she completed her family of five children. After her marriage to Jerry Eldin Scott on June 5, 1982, she resided in New Orleans, Louisiana, prior to moving to her final home in Ashland City, Tennessee. She was a long-time member of the First Baptist Church of Ashland City, and the Fidelis Sunday school class.

Her talents and accomplishments were many. She added much to the lives of her children by being active in the Metropolitan Nashville Parent-Teachers Association and serving as its president from 1972-1974. She was a Girl Scout troop leader for 13 years, and taught Sunday school. She was a talented artist, seamstress, and gardener.

Her husband gave her the will to live through her many illnesses. Her physicians skillfully and compassionately cared for her and the family is grateful to James Reginald Anderson, M.D., Byron Haitas, M.D., Robert Mangialardi, M.D., and Christian F. Vissers, Jr., M.D., of Centennial Medical Center. The family is grateful to all her caregivers, especially to AseraCare Hospice who helped her through the most difficult transition of life. Her beloved pastor, Brother Samuel Creed, prayed with her and her husband throughout all of her infirmities.

She was an inspiration to all who knew and loved her with her fierce determination, witty humor, and sharp mind. Her life is a testament to her unwavering faith in the Lord, and she would not want her passing remembered in sorrow but in praise to the glory and victory of God and everlasting love.

Her service was held at the Cheatham County Funeral Home on Sept. 7, 2012, officiated by Brother Samuel Creed. Active pallbearers were Walton Scott, Ryan Potts, Ron Brawley, Kim Shivers, Tom Thompson, and Tony Thompson; Honorary Pallbearers were Ernie Welch, Bob Pullen, Randy Moran, Linn Goldsmith, and Dan Johnson. Her internment is at Bethlehem Cemetery in Ashland City, Tennessee. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the American Heart Association, or the American Lung Association.
