James "Sammy" Howard Ray, age 72, passed away Sunday, August 2, 2020, at The Waters of Cheatham in Ashland City, TN. James was born in Lawrenceburg, Tennessee, on August 25, 1947, to the late Harvey Woodson Ray and Audie Mae (Staggs) Ray. James worked as a maintenance supervisor for NHC for many years. He is preceded in death by his parents; brothers; Billy Ray, Paul Ray, Jimmy Ray, Howard Ray and Raymond Ray, sister; Edith Bradley. He is survived by his brother, Travis Neil Ray and sister; Joyce Black (Earl). The family chose cremation and a private memorial will be held at a later date.
