BALDWIN, James "Doc", M.D., age 76, passed away at his home on Thursday, January 24, 2014. He was born to Dr. James M. and Ruby Smith Baldwin in Harrisburg, Illinois. Doc received his medical degree from the University of Louisville in Louisville, Kentucky, and was drafted to the U.S. Navy in 1964. After serving three years in the Navy during the Vietnam conflict, President Johnson appointed Doc to serve the area of Ashland City as Medical Advisor in 1968. Doc served the Ashland City Community for 46 years. He was a member of the Tennessee Academy of Family Physicians and a member of the Nashville Academy of Medicine. He is predeceased by his parents and survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Janice Groves Baldwin and son, Chris (Angela) Baldwin; brother, Tim Baldwin, MD, of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; and sisters, Betty (Stan) Hastey of Alexandria, Virginia and Pam (Rick) Cates of Galatia, Illinois. Funeral service will be held on Sunday, January 26, 2014, in the Chapel of Cheatham County Funeral Home with Alvin Mitchell and Tommy Pardue officiating. The United States Navy will provide military honors. Visitation with the family will be Saturday, January 25th from 11am until 6pm and on Sunday from 10am until the service hour of 2pm. Honorary pallbearers: Craig Empson, Howard Salyer, George Sledge, Paul and Connie Nichols, Charles Boyte, Gene Sanders, Ricky Kelly, Jimmy Lewis, Jimmy Bradley and Michael Massey.
