James "Jay" Lloyd Newell, age 80, passed away at his home on Tuesday, March 3, 2020, surrounded by his loving family. Jay was born on September 26, 1939, in Lawrenceburg, Tennessee, to the late Lloyd and Chapple Green Newell. He was a member of Sycamore Chapel Church of Christ and worked and retired from the wholesale florist industry. Jay was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He is preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Kimberly Jean Hindman; and brother, Jackie Ray Newell. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Carolyn Jean Bassham Newell; children, Tony Newell, Keith (Angela) Newell, and Mitchell (Patsy) Newell; 8 grandchildren, Chapple Arnold, Bryant Newell, Caleb Newell, Jeremy Hindman, Josh Hindman, Justin Newell, Luke Newell, and Lydia Newell; and 13 great-grandchildren. Funeral service will be Friday, March 6, 2020, at 1pm in the Chapel of Cheatham County Funeral Home with Kevin Williams and Freddie Garza officiating. Burial will follow in Bearwallow Community Cemetery in Ashland City, Tennessee. The family will receive visitors at the funeral home on Thursday, March 5th, from 4pm to 8pm and on Friday, March 6th, from 10am until service hour of 1pm. Serving as pallbearers are Bryant Newell, Justin Newell, Luke Newell, Ezra Binkley, Jeremy Hindman, and Josh Hindman.
