James Houston Barlar, Sr., age 84, passed away on Wednesday, December 7, 2022. He was born in Nashville, Tennessee on February 19, 1938, to the late Glendon Ingram Barlar and Martha (Soapes) Barlar. He worked as the head grocery clerk at Kroger. James is preceded in death by his parents, Glendon and Martha Barlar; and brother, Robert Barlar. He is survived by his wife, Lucille (Woosley) Barlar; sons, James "Jimmy" Houston Barlar, Jr. (Jan), Jerry Barlar (Allison), and Jonathan Barlar (Sharenda); sisters, Samantha Ivey and Hettie Watson; grandchildren, James Houston, III (Jennifer), Jacob Barlar, Jaden Barlar, Sophie Barlar, Claire Barlar, Caroline Barlar, and Catherine Barlar; and great grandchildren, Everly Barlar and Levi Barlar. Funeral service will be Saturday, December 10, 2022, at 5pm in the Chapel of Cheatham County Funeral Home with Bishop Ron Becton and Jerry Barlar officiating. Visitation will be Saturday, December 10, 2022, from 3pm until the service hour of 5pm. Burial will be Monday, December 12, 2022, at 11am at Woodlawn Memorial Park in Nashville, Tennessee.
