Irene Wilson Mackey, born April 26, 1930, passed away at her home with family by her side on February 4, 2016. She is survived by her devoted husband of sixty-five years, Robert Taylor Mackey. She is also survived by her five children: Carole Mackey, Rhonda Rapone (Robert), Steve Mackey (Helen), Sandra Phillips (Scott), and Susan Collins (Terrell), as well as 15 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents Annie Mae Epley Wilson and Eliga Wilson; her sister, Betty Sue Wilson Frey, and her grandson, Shane Mackey.
Irene lived in Ashland City for forty-six years and was a member of the Ashland City Church of Christ. She was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in August and was able to spend the last five months with her close friends and family. Throughout her life, she always put the needs of those she loved above her own. She was a loving wife and mother and loyal friend.
Funeral service will be held at the Cheatham County Funeral Home in Ashland City, Tennessee, on Saturday, February 6, 2016, at 2pm. Brother Cliett Goodpasture and Brother Drake Jenkins will officiate. Burial will follow in EverRest of Cheatham, LLC, in Pleasant View, Tennessee. The family will receive friends on Friday, February 5, 2016, from 3pm to 8pm and on Saturday before the service from 12noon until 2pm. Serving as pallbearers will be her grandsons, Nathan Douglas, Mark Rapone, Derek Phillips, Brett Collins, Scott Phillips and Terrell Collins.
