Gwendolyn Doughten, age 87, formerly of Ashland City, Tennessee, passed away on Monday, March 10, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. She was born to James Harland Williams and Altha (Hall) Williams on January 15, 1938, in Nashville, Tennessee. She graduated from Cheatham County High School Class of 1956. She worked for the Adhesive Company and Credit Bureau providing customer service. She was a loving wife and mother. She is preceded in death by father, James Harland Williams; mother, Altha Williams; and husband, Jimmy Doughten. She is survived by her son, Micah Doughten; daughter, Merilee (Johnny) Scott; and her 5 grand-furbabies.
She is remembered fondly by her high school best friend, Ann Binkley:
"I met Gwen the first day of our freshman year and we remained friends for all four years. We had crushes together, we had problems together, and got our feelings hurt together. Gwen couldn't stand my chewing gum. Then, at the end of our senior year, I got engaged first and Gwen was next. Gwen was the only child and apple of her parents' eyes. Gwen was the only girl in our class to be driving at that time and had access to her dad's big, blue Buick. As teenagers, all were free to hang out at Williams's home and front yard. Mrs. Altha always had a batch of million-dollar fudge. Mr. Harland introduced me to eating pig's feet. It was the best of times."
Gwen will be missed by all who knew her.
Her wishes were to be cremated, and no services are planned.
