Evelyn Speight Lee, age 97, passed away August 18, 2017. Preceded in death by husband Eugene Lee, parents Thomas Speight and Lelia Hagewood Speight, sisters Robbie Waddell, Edna Dunnavant, Betty Tant and Geneva Speight. Survivors include children, James R. (Bobby) and wife Faye Lee, and Patti Harris; grandchildren Todd Lee, Trent (Jean) Lee, Amy (David) Gossett; great-grandchildren, Tristan, Bryson, Gentry, Maverick and Montana.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Sunday August 20, 2017 from 4-8pm. Service will be at Mt. Liberty Cumberland Presbyterian Church on Monday, August 21st, at 10am with visitation beginning at 9am before the service.
She was born in Dickson County, March 22, 1920. Most of her life was lived in the Cheatham/Dickson area. She was a homemaker and storekeeper until 1971 when she went to work at Cheatham County Nursing Home. She took mail correspondence from Auburn University and became Dietician there . She loved to cook and visit with the patients. When she retired in 1984, she became very involved with volunteering and service to others. She volunteered at Centennial Hospital in Ashland City and delivered Meals on Wheels to shut ins. She was one of the founding members of the Quilters at the Senior Center in Ashland City. Being an avid cook and seamstress, she enjoyed the County Fair and always entered food, needlework and quilts. She loved to have a vegetable garden and could not bear to have anything go to waste, canning cucumbers and green tomato relish every year, often donating it to her church Harvest Festival. She looked forward to church at Mt. Liberty Cumberland Presbyterian and loved her Adult Sunday School Class and church family.
She cherished the close friendship of Peg Morris and Louise Brogdon, often visiting and sewing together. Her life revolved around family, church and service to others. She will be greatly missed.
Burial will be in Mt. Liberty Cemetery. Active pallbearers:Todd Lee, Trent Lee, Bob Kullman, David Stone, Floyd Dunnavant and Clate Reed. Honorary pallbearers: great-grandchildren; Tristan, Maverick, Montana and Bryson Lee; Gentry Gossett, David Gossett, Stacey "Bubba" Duke, Mt. Liberty Adult Sunday School Class and the memory of the Seniors Citizens Quilters. In Evelyn's memory donations made be made to the Ashland City Senior Citizens Center or to the Mt.
