Douglas "Doug" Veron Lyon, age 80, of Springfield, Tennessee, passed away Thursday, August 7, 2025, in West Meade Place in Nashville. Mr. Lyon was born on November 13, 1944, in Hanover, New Hampshire, to the late Veron Lyon & Helen Hobbs Lyon. He never retired (kept working right up to the point that his health began to deteriorate) and was a veteran of the United States Navy having served as a pilot in the Vietnam War. The ships that he served on included the USS Saratoga and the USS Oriskany. He is preceded in death by his parents, Veron Lyon and Helen Joyce (Hobbs) Lyon; and sister-in-law, Anne Gorton (Don, Jr.). He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Sidney Carlton Lyon; daughter, Joyce (Barry) Haggard; honorary son, Robert Springfield; sister-in-law, Carolyn Gorton (W. Mack); grandchildren, Lindsay (Jake) Greer, Abigail (Jaren) Brown, Sophie Haggard; 1 great-grandchild, Jameson Brown, and beloved neighbors and friends.
Funeral service will be on Sunday, August 10th at 4pm in the Chapel of Cheatham County Funeral Home. Visitation will be Sunday before the service from 2pm to 4pm. A graveside service with burial following will be conducted at 1pm, Tuesday, August 12, 2025, at Middle Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery in Nashville. The family would like to especially thank: Terry and Gayle LeMay, Terrence Hyde and his wife, and Matt & Lisa McConnell, as well as the staff at the Veterans Hospital in Nashville along with the care team personnel from the Health Center at West Meade Place and AccentCare Hospice.
