Royal Carter Barnes, age 87, passed away on Sunday, August 7, 2022. He was born in Nashville, Tennessee on August 1, 1935, to the late Joe Barnes and Edna Harper. Carter is preceded in death by his parents, and sisters, Midge Pentecost, and Katherine Blythe; his first love, Joan Hudson; and his companion of 47 years, Helen Shores. He is survived by his son, Randy (Jonnalyn) Barnes; brothers, Gary (Kay) Barnes, John (Cathy) Barnes, Ronnie (Margie) Barnes, Robert, and Joe Barnes; sisters, Christine Hamlin, Polly Elliott, and Jean (James) Wolf; one grandchild, Jacob Barnes; loyal best friend Gloria (Dwight) Lindsay; sons by choice, Ronnie (Charlotte) Shores and Terry (Bettye) Shores; and his beloved cat Sue. Funeral service will be Wednesday, August 10, 2022, at 12 noon in the Chapel of Cheatham County Funeral Home with Brother Chris Moore officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday, August 9, from 4pm to 7pm, and on Wednesday from 10am until the hour of service. Burial will follow at EverRest of Cheatham in Pleasant View, Tennessee. Serving as active pallbearers will be family and friends. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Jerry "Rooster" Wilson, Les (Nancy) Williams, and Bobby "Charlie Boy" Wilson.
