Obituary

Bishop Larry Thomas Davis, Sr. was born on December 27, 1946, to the parentage of Florida Davis and the late Elihue Davis. He was preceded in death by his father Elihue Davis, grandson (namesake) Larry Davis, III, his grandparents: Deacon Charlie (Sue Lee) Porter and Rev. C.D. (Sally) Davis; aunts: Addie, Gertrude, Minnie, Millie Ann Marguerite; and uncles: Willie, Frederick, William, Alphonso, James, Pastor Charlie Porter; Randall Davis; 1 cousin devoted until his death Rev. Britain Porter Sr., and wife of many years Shirley Teasley Davis.

His early education was at Maury County School and Buena Vista High School after later moving to Saginaw, Michigan. Bishop Davis was baptized under the leadership of the late Rev. R.B. Austin at the Tabernacle Missionary Church in Saginaw, Michigan. He was installed as Bishop under Bishop Moss of Chestnut Grove Church. He served as the pastor at New Hope Freewill Baptist Church for 19 years and enjoyed singing with The Sensational Canaan Travelers.

Bishop Larry Davis departed this life on January 29, 2022, surrounded by his wife and caregiver, Bonnie Davis. He leaves to cherish many memories, his wife, Elder Bonnie Davis; his mother, Florida Davis, Saginaw, MI; 2 daughter: Tracy Lachell (Woodrow) Monday, Milledgeville, GA; Lawintres Kaye Otey (Fiance Roger), Nashville, TN; 2 Sons: Larry (Sarah) Davis, Jr. Portsmouth, VA; and Stephen Davis, Hampton, VA; 4 brother-in-laws: Sylvester Poole, Horace (Mitzi) King, Harry King, Jr., Mark (Andrea) King, Sr.; 1 sister-in-law: Michelle (Harold) Sims. 2 Aunts: Sarah Bullock, Grace Ann (Henry) Houston, Jean Porter; 2 uncles: Leon Davis, Clifford Davis; 2 devoted grandsons: Daniel (Sheena) Davis, Sandersville, GA and Chris Davis, Milledgeville, GA to whom he appointed to care of his mother and wife; other grandchildren: Daevon Asberry, Terrance Davis, Shannon Davis, Karmen Otey, Kameron Otey, Carnell Otey; and 7 great grandchildren.

His extended family consists of Cousin/Sister Lucille Posley & family, Donna Duke & family of Tennessee, Peggy Prince, Para Redeemer, Minster Ludell Moultrie; and faithful friend Chester Sledge all of Saginaw, Michigan; countless friends but especially one brother to whom were devoted to the cause.

A Homegoing Celebration for Bishop Larry T. Davis, Sr., will be Monday, February 7th, in the New Hope Free Will Baptist Church in the Neptune Community of Ashland City at 12noon. Burial will follow in Mount Carmel Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday, February 6, 2022, in the Chapel of Cheatham County Funeral Home from 4pm to 7pm.
