BERTIE MAE CARUTHERS, age 87, passed away at her home on Thursday, December 28, 2017. Bertie was born in Old Hickory, Tennessee, on April 18, 1930, to the late Clarence Odie Bishop and Mary Irene Bowker Bishop. She was a member of Good News Fellowship, where she was bookkeeper for many years as well. Bertie worked and retired from State Industries as an accountant after 33 years of service. She was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, James Elbert Caruthers; granddaughter, Sherry Joanne Pruitt; grandson, Christopher Charles Caruthers; and great-grandson, Jaxton Shawn Pruitt. She is survived by her son: James Mark Caruthers; daughters, Wanda Carlene Shelton, Rosa Gail (J.B.) Boyles, Cynthia Ann Downing, Pamela Sue (Skip) Burdette, and Mary Renee Adler; brother, Jimmy Andrew (Martha) Bishop; 22 grandchildren; and 40 great-grandchildren. Funeral service will be Monday, January 1, 2018, at 1pm in the Chapel of Cheatham County Funeral Home with Pastor Jan Taylor officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Hill Cemetery in Ashland City, Tennessee. Visitation with the family will be Sunday, December 31, 2017, from 1pm to 6pm and on Monday, January 1, 2018, from 10am until service hour of 1pm. Serving as pallbearers will be Monte Adler, James Mark Caruthers, James D. Caruthers, Zachary Adler, Jason Walton, and J.B. Boyles.
