December 20, 1925 - December 27, 2016
Judy Lefevers Harper, age 91, passed peacefully from this life on December 27, 2016. Born December 20, 1925 in Manchester, TN, she was preceded in death by her parents Robert and Lillie Lefevers as well as her sister Louise Richards. Her survivors include her husband and life focus of more than 68 years, F. Stephen (Steve) Harper, Jr. as well as her close friend John Crow ("the son she didn't have to pay for") and her beloved cat, Sweetie. She is also survived by two daughters, Elizabeth Fendley and Deborah Stillwell along with 4 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. Arriving in Nashville in the fall of 1944 with a scholarship to Andrew Jackson Business college, Judy completed her course work on an accelerated basis and began a career in office management and accounting which culminated in a 35 year association with John M. Crow, CPA. Her role in that accounting firm was indispensable. In 1946, through a blind date, Judy met Steve Harper and began a two year courtship which was to be followed by more than 68 years of marriage. Each was a part of the other, an inseparable combination. Steve was Judy's life and Judy's life was Steve's. Upon Steve's retirement as director of advertising for the Gannett owned Tennessean newspaper, Judy and Steve moved from Brentwood to their self- constructed dream home on a farm near Charlotte, TN. Many happy years followed, surrounded by their livestock, horses, dogs and cats - all of whom Judy loved immensely. She is, and will continue to be, greatly missed. Special thanks are to be given to their group of guardian angels in the last years, especially Regina (Nina) Williams, Jamie Rayburn, Tammy Welcher, Debra Millard, Sheila Bryant, Debbie Miller, Dana Carver and Amy Butler. Gratitude is also extended to her son-in-law Ed Fendley for his concern and periodic visits. Cremation and funeral arrangements are being made through Cheatham County Funeral Home, with interment to be made in the Harper family plot in Forrest Lawn Cemetery, Ashland City, TN. Memorial services will be conducted at First United Methodist Church in Dickson, TN at a date to be determined. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Judy's memory to the Dickson County Humane Association, the Nashville Humane Association, the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA), St. Jude's Children's Hospital or the charity of your choice.
